Skiathos is the first of the Sporades Islands, and the one closer to Magnisia.

It is the most ‘cosmopolitan’ of the Sporades Islands, as in summer lots of tourists travel there to enjoy both its beauty and its vivid nightlife.

Hora (Skiathos town) has about 5.000 inhabitants. There are no other villages or settlements on the island.

A 14-kilometre-long ring road connects Hora with Koukounaries, which is the most popular beach of the island.

• Skiathos is 41 nautical miles far from Volos, the capital of Magnisia prefecture, and 2.4 miles away from the beaches of Southern Pilio.
• It has an area of 48 square km.
• At a small distance from Skiathos there is an islet named Tsougria that you can visit by boat.
• There is lush vegetation and lots of beaches on the island (most of which are organized). The most popular of them are: Koukounaries, Banana, Mikri Aselinos, Megali Aselinos and Lalaria.

• There is an airport just out of Skiathos town.
  
• There is a port with a small marina.
• There are ferries and hydrofoils to Volos and Thessaloniki.

• Go to Burtzi for a cup of coffee and a walk. Burtzi is a small peninsula that divides Skiathos port in two.
• Visit Papadiamantis’ house, which is a museum today, in Skiathos town.
• Go swimming to Banana and Aselinos beaches.
• Visit Kastro (Castle) and have a swim on the beach by the same name.
• Go to Lalaria by boat, and swim in its clear waters (if there is favoring weather).
• If you have some time visit Tsougria by boat (there is also an organized beach there).

And for the young (and the young at heart):

• Have fun in the beach bars of Banana and Vromolimno.
• Have a cocktail in the pubs that are at the ‘steps’ near the old port
